Consider how to use photography to tell your story, to share your feelings and your experience.

Photography offers a poetic means of storytelling and smartphones are a simple, powerful tool to do just that. This iPhone photo captures the innocence of a child in a poetic manner. Tangible objects can be used to symbolize intangible feelings and experiences, thereby offering an invitation for your viewers to engage with more than their eyes.

Who is Rob Goldman?

I began my career as a professional photographer at 22 years old, traveling the world as an advertising and magazine photographer. My work has appeared in galleries and national magazines including Cosmopolitan, Time, Brides and Mademoiselle. My images have also appeared in ads for Club Med, Microsoft, AT&T, Marriott, Ritz Carlton, Anheuser-Busch and Seagrams, to name a few. Then, I discovered the transformative power of teaching, and teaching transformed my work and my life.

My greater purpose became crystal clear as I realized that educating ⎯ whether one-on-one, at college level, or at international workshops ⎯ was exceptionally rewarding. As a result, I have spent the last 20 years teaching and coaching hundreds of students, professional photographers and private clients around the world. For me, nothing compares to the satisfaction of coaching a passionate photographer to realize their dreams.

My photography projects are now transformative as well. I now create socially engaged photography projects for cities, museums, colleges, and schools that change lives and foster community. The “IMatter” Project, my celebrated youth empowerment program, was featured on National Public Radio, which led to two TEDx Talks on the topics of creativity and socially engaged art. I hold a Masters Degree in Interdisciplinary Arts and a Bachelors Degree in Professional Photography. My wife, Elena, and I make our home in Woodstock, NY and Costa Rica.

Place your subject very close to a window, with the light coming from the side.

It’s easy to set yourself up for success. Have them sit closer to the window than you might think and you will have one the easiest, most beautiful light sources imaginable. Now simplify your background and really pay attention to your subject. When the moment presents itself, all you have to do is click.

Testimonials

I am truly inspired, and my creative eye has been awakened again. I came away with a strong feeling of love, for myself, for life, for everything, and an urge to create.

- Mischa F.
When I met you, I found my voice. I found my way to myself through working with you. My camera became my means of communication and it became my voice for what I really wanted to say, not what everyone expected me to be and do and say. You helped me step into my power and create a [photography] business. Your program is about a self-journey and an exploration of yourself with photography as your tool. Anyone can teach technique; you teach how to connect to your heart and put that in your photos. That what separates you from anyone else out there.

- Katie B.
It's changed everything. It’s changed the way I think about my photography. It’s changed the way I think about my life. It’s changed the way I think about myself. It’s changed everything. If you’re willing to be open-minded, you’ll see what this can bring to you.

- Monica P.
